My next book will not be about a dog. Something different. Here is a small piece of it.

Broken Pottery

by Terri Blazell-Wayson

The world spins

Like a giant potter’s wheel

And we are tiny lumps of clay.

God is molding each of us;

Some into fine sculpture

Others into more practical things

Like plates and bowls.

Sometimes I can feel His hands upon me

Kneading gently

as my form takes shape

Or pounding me relentlessly

Into a ball again

Because I am stubborn clay,

Not passive.

I do not yield to the Potter’s hands.

I want to go my own way

So He rolls me into a ball again

And starts over.

Around I spin.

He dips His hands in water

Then soothes them over my cracks.

I feel His thumbs gently pressing my sides

To give me form and beauty.

His fingers round my edges.

His palms lift me upward.

His hands rub me smooth.

And when I think I’m nearly done

I notice a flaw.

“Look,” I say, “I’m flawed.”

“Oh no, child,” the Potter replies.

“That is not a flaw. It’s a design.”

He holds up His palm

And I finger the cruel rough edge of a scar.

“All my pieces have this design,” He says.

“If you did not have it, you would not be Mine.”

“He rolls me into a ball again and starts over.” That is the amazing thing about God. He does not give up on us. No matter what we’ve done or had done to us. No matter where we’ve been or who we’ve hurt – He lets us start over.
